| I've found a frustrating issue when trying to rewire Reason 4 with Ableton Live 7. First off, I'm using an Intel-based laptop using Vista 32, a Novation ReMOTE SL Compact, and a Lambda Lexicon for interfacing hardware (both are USB). When both applications are running, occasionally (and consistently) when I input notes (and usually chords) on the ReMOTE I have a problem where the tempo of both applications drops to 0. I know the master application controls tempo in rewire mode, but so far no help from Ableton or it's community. I cannot reproduce the problem with either application alone, only when rewired. I was wondering if it could be a midi driver conflict between the Lambda Lexicon and the ReMOTE SL, but I'm not really sure how to go about debugging that. If anyone has any thoughts about where I should begin looking for a resolution, it would be much appreciated! Honestly, I love Reason (and have ever since early ReBirth releases) but really would like to be able to take advantage of some of the features of Live while using Reason. Many thanks Antipode |

Wow I use ableton and I've never had this issue. It's really confusing, it could be a issue with the rewire protocol itself, do you have an other rewire capable application that you can run with ableton to see if the same thing happens?

Maybe Ableton is trying to process the recieved MIDI data as MIDI Clock information. Try to deactivate everything which has to do with MIDI clocking in Ableton.

SG: No, I don't have any other ReWire DAWs or applications.. is there something you could recommend as either demoware/freeware that I could download and experiment with to check your theory about the problem being in the ReWire protocol itself? Is there somewhere I can manage or edit that protocol? I'm pretty new to rewiring applications. iGoA: A great suggestion.. and it sure sounded like a promising solution. I went in to Live's preferences under MIDI sync and disabled all clocking from the ports I was using but the problem persisted. Frustrated, I disabled EVERYTHING to do with my input device (ReMOTE SL compact, and I tried disabling all of it's midi clock functions too) from Live (so I was only using Live's audio channels to monitor and modulate Reason instruments) but still the tempo would drop probably one of out six times when playing a chorded note. Here's a picture, maybe someone spots something I am doing wrong! The setup I have displayed there is based on instruction from the ReMOTE SL documentation on setting it up to use with Live. It works without any problems when not rewired. ![]() This issue is totally interrupting my workflow and slowly sapping my drive to produce. The Ableton community seems larger and totally silent on the issue.. thank you folks for your help here! Antipode |

mmh...seems to be really more complicated. Do you have this problem without Reason rewired too? You said, the problem appears, when you hit chords. Doesn't it appear, when you hit single notes? There could be another reason then: Maybe the CPU usage raises to much, when you hit multiple note at the same time. Usually Reason will stop playing, when CPU usage raises above 80%. You can set this threshold to a higher value or even disable the stop-function. have a look at the cpu usage indicator in Reason. mayber, there's the reason. |

I can't reproduce the problem when using the same hardware setup with either Reason 4 or Live 7 alone.. only when rewired. As far as computer usage, the problem will occur even if I open new sets in both DAWs and load even a simple instrument (for a total of less than 5% CPU usage), so I don't think that is the issue.

Oh, sorry, but then I don't have any other ideas at this moment.

The Terminator franchise is what got me interested in the movies in the first place. The first was a suspenseful cyberpunk thriller, and the second became my favorite movie of all time. The third fell short of intelligence but still solid nonetheless, and the TV series was a good addition to the franchise. Nearing the end of May, the fourth and latest film addition of the beloved sci-fi franchise will open, and viewers are in for a sheer summer spectacle.
