Default Midi Message Controversy

hey whatsup,

i got a edirol pcr-300 today, 50 free assignable knobs...
so i got this software with it, where i can assign every knob to a special midi message, and value and all kind of stufff.

but how can i see what midi message f.e. triggers a c1 in reason????

is there a list or a little software that can show u what message calls when u trigger a key on the keyboard or some knob or something????

thanks for your time

You can use MIDI-OX (or MIDIOX in one word). Itīs a free software, which can be used to inspect/route/filter the MIDI data stream of your devices.

BUT are you going to use Reason with your pcr300? Then you donīt need any special software, because Reason has a MIDI-Learn function. This meens, when you want to assign a controller knob to a virtual knob in your Reason rack, you right click it and select "edit remote override", then click "learn from MIDI"(or something like this). After this you just push/rotate/shift your knob/fader/button and Reason will recognize it as the wanted input for this virtual knob.

@redrummurder:
Do you mean, it doesn't save the mapping with your RNS-Files or in Reason itself. You have to know, remote mapping overrides are only saved into the songs where you assigned them and they are only available for exactly the devices where set them up (for example, when you set up a mapping for a subtractor, this mapping will only affect THIS subtractor, not others).

this post was a while back, but if you come across this same problem, you might consider saving an empty song with all your midi assignations in it and then setting this as the default rack to load upon reason startup
