I had my reason working perfectly the other day and I had sound and everything but now I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong. My keyboard is a yamaha mo8 and I'm just trying to use a midi-to-usb cable into my computer. I went to Edit>Preferences>Keyboard and Control Surfaces and since Yamaha doesnt even show up for some reason I chose other, and the chose one of the generic keyboard models. But its still not picking up anything from my keyboard. What in the world am I not doing? THanks!

update: the little connector on my midi-to-usb cable has three lights: midi out, midi in, and usb. the midi in and usb lights are one but the midi out light isn't. is something wrong with my midi cable or is there something wrong with my setup in reason?

I guess, it´s normal that the MIDI-OUT LED is off, because Reason never sends any MIDI data out. Your cable should be OK.
Did you enter the correct MIDI-Input-Port in the Controller Surface setup window? It´s at the left bottom of the window.

If you want to send midi out, rewire reason with another daw.

[edit] Igoa: any reason why you use ` instead of ' ? is it your keyboard layout, or is it just easier?

I think, it´s my laziness. I have a german keyboard layout and have to hold SHIFT + {they key which makes '} if I want a '. The ´ is just one key. :-)

Also if you start up reason 4 without your unit plugged in the error window will also use ` instead of ' ...
