| After weeks of desperation, I finally got my keyboard to work with my Dell Inspiron 1720 - the problem: Vista. Vista is the new Windows ME, when you see that it takes up 15GB of space after the OS has been installed, you know that it's just going to be jam-packed with the most useless feature known to nerd-kind - aero. Compare that to a typical Linux installation - 3GB. The fact is, all of the Multinational Corporations are paid to advertise and brag about Vista's "features", which apply to computer-illeterate consumers who wouldn't know any better and are willing to fork out a good few hundred of bucks for such a pile of crap. Even after this problem, several more arose (is that a word?), I wasn't able to play half of my old games, some programs wouldn't even run, there were bugs and glitches all over the freakin' place, it somehow refused to function when ubuntu was partitioned next to it. I eventually had to settle for an XP installation, which is definitely the best Windows so far. And the best part - my keyboard and bcr WORK! I was all like "this is the moment of truth..." and when I pressed my keyboard and saw the text "MStUio2", I knew that it was working! (the manufacturers managed to screw up the name some how lol). I even started dancing across the room blasting the demo song out at full blast, playing some redrum keys with my board, man it felt good... now I'll be able to demo again in my school. My advice for all you having problems with OSs: Don't use Vista! It has the value of a turd sandwich, if you need to use windows (i.e. my case) install XP, or even better use apple software. Linux isn't practical yet, but if it ever is, I know that I'm soooo going to install ubuntu (a linux distribution). /Tom. |

Tell ya what man, this is EXACTLY why my next computer purchase is not going to be Windows. I noticed they are no longer putting XP on stock PCs from Dell, and if you want XP you need to pay TWO HUNDRED BUCKS EXTRA. Really horrible. Eventually, WinXP will no longer be supported and then everyone will really be SOL. My next purchase is without-a-doubt going to be Apple, be it MacMini, Macbook or iMac I really don't care. Vista is too damn bloated, and I do think everything will eventually work on that platform but who knows how long it will take, and it will ALWAYS be a bloated piece of crap compared to a *nix distro or MacOS. And yes, arose is a word

I actually like windows vista (I KNOW I KNOW, But hear me out). It just feels way "smoother" in some ways. But it's definitely very bloated and buggy. I'm on a pc using vista right now, I prefer XP but when vista gets all its updates and gets all the drivers working, I wont have no problem using it.

I was using some obscure hardware that you can only buy in Germany (I got it second-hand) and I didn't try the Behringer, and I know what you mean, I had the same reason for trying out Vista. I'm just really T/Od right now because everyone's saying how good it is and I have to explain why it's garbage (spot the napoleon dynamite quote). But even though it may go "smoother in Vista", you gotta realize that everything that you can get in Vista is available in XP, and XP can be configured to do whatever you can in Vista just as smoothly. And I'm pretty sure that you can download the "Aero" theme for XP sparing the coding disaster. In fact, I think that the only truly new thing in Vista is DX10, which I read somewhere "isn't going to go very far". Mane: The extra 200 bucks is a good reason to use torrents Also, Dells main plant is just a couple of miles away from me, in Leixlip, Naas. Pretty cool, I didn't realize all of you guys heard of dell. Do teh hair dance! Last edited by Titancow; April 21st, 2008 at 21:06. |
