Default Midi Play Range Question

Hi,
I've been using Reason for a while now, but mostly with an old junky Casio as a midi control surface. I've been wanting to use some of the piano patches as a substitute for not owning a decent piano (all my "real" instruments are guitars). Its obviously not a full 88-key surface and I've been wanting to change the range of notes that are controlled from the keyboard within reason. My problem is I can't find how to do it. It makes sense that its possible, but I've been searching everywhere I can and for the life of me I cannot figure out how.

Sorry if that's been asked before, nothing showed up in searching the forums (maybe because its such a dumb question? hmm)...

Thanks for any help!
-Bryan

Is there an octave button on the keyboard?

If not, change the "octave" knob on the device you're using.

So far as I've found the keyboard doesn't have an octave control that affects the midi output (only keyboard patches).

Adjusting the octave on the device does in fact work for the NN-19 (duh, should have thought of that). Part of the reason I didn't think of that is the device I was trying to get to work was the NN-XT, which doesn't have an octave control that I know of. So would it not be possible with that device?

Sorry, I know I just need to pony up the cash for a new control surface. And really I can get by with the NN-19. I just think some of the XT patches sound better. If you know any way to change the NN-XT I'd love to know. Otherwise thanks for the help! Much appreciated...

This is very much possible in the nnxt, it's just a little more of a hassle.

Just expand the nnxt with that little arrow on the bottom of the device, then press ctrl+a (which will select all the sample zones) and then change the octave knob under the "Pitch" section. And there you go.

By the way I really advice you to get the new midi controller as soon as possible, if you find a decent one, it's definitely worth the money.

It also works with most synths, using the... thing... can't remember - it's either the modulator or the oscillator... no i'm pretty sure it's the modulator... lol

Sweet, that's what I was looking for. I never really noticed the NN-XT opened up like that... Always thought it was rather odd there were so few controls for it. I guess I'm not too keen on things hidden in plain sight.

Thanks for the help guys!

yeah, I don't think that you can automate that octave key in the NNXT though, that's a MAJOR flaw in Reason's design... but if you have a MIDI controller, like the BCR2000 then you can assign a virtual knob to a physical knob and control with a real knob instead of your crummy mouse.
