| but thought I'd ask anyway I prefer the 14:2...well actually I have never used the 6:2. Seems to me the only advantage it has it that it takes up less space in the rack!! |

I usually use 6:2 to gather the inputs at the top of a combinator, otherwise it's gonna be 14:2. I don't think there is really a difference other than size and a little functionality lol

| what do you mean by "gather the inputs at the top of a combinator"

I think I know what he means. If you want all your devices to be completely self contained in a combinator, you have to use a mixer and merge all their audio together and route that to the combinator's main "device input" (I think it's labeled that, not sure). So he's saying he uses the 6:2 mixer to do that, probably to save space on the screen. I don't use the combinator as often (I know I should be ashamed |

I think that he means get all of the devices in a combinator and route through a sort of sub-mastering right? That's what I do, as I usually make all the devices in a Combinator the same instrument or fx, as do most people. I usually use two or three chained 14:2 mixers for all of the instruments and route that into the main mastering and effects, for stuff like multiple devices and FX devices relating to say drums, or a comb relating to a synth or something, I'd use the 6:2, assuming that I had under 6 outputs.

Lol, it's alright you're actually learning at a real quick rate apex, I'm surprised. If you really want to get in depth with the combinator, (Which you could argue is one of the best devices in reason) I'm sure there's many tutorials on youtube.

Here's how the whole combinator set up works... Audio Out Mastering Mixer Combinator Combinator Mixer Combinator internal devices Pretty unusual way of putting it I guess but it shows how all the devices are routed.

![]() Please excuse the mess of wires from the other devices, but exactly what SG said. The 14:2 would suffice but it's too damn big and I'm only using it to collect outputs from effects and dry signal. Then usually the combinator is set up with some override automations to mute and unmute the channels, which are then recorded. Works pretty well, beats drawing slopes haha
