| its been a time since i had a look in here and in my Reason Rack, but now I got Time again and want to start doin my thing again. So my very first Question is: How can I get some Snare samples really tight so that they just are really sick, but snappy and kind of short but rocking. Like in this Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QOGTF7jl_0 From 2:58 till 3:20 you can hear better what I mean... |

That's just a "nerdy snare" which has been edited slightly (possibly pitch change & eq) and has been overlayed with a clap (correct me if I'm wrong). Nerdy snares can usually be found in DJ/trance drum samples and in a lot of analog collections.

Yeah, try shortening the length of the sample and use the square envelope on the redrum, also pitch shift up (as mentioned), and boosting eq at 3-6khz can help too. To add punch, try a little compression. hope this helps some.
