Default Completely new to reason

Hi guys !
New member here.
I'm a music addict, so its no suprise that here I'm, with reason ready to learn how to make music on my computer. I'm also a drummer in a heavy metal band, but I have no knowledge of music besides drumming.

So I'm not rly sure where to start learning. I'm getting a midi keyboard today from my grandpa that he doesn't use. My first question is, how do I hook it up to my computer ? I have a regular pretty high-end computer, but do I need anything external/additional than what a regular computer has so I can hook up the computer ? Thanks !

Hey Adam,

The way most people connect MIDI keyboards to their computer is through USB. If the keyboard doesn't have a USB output, only a MIDI one, then never fear - you can buy MIDI-USB adapters for your computer. These already have MIDI cables connected to one end and USB connected to the other, so once you get the adapter you shouldn't need anything else.

Once you do this and plug the keyboard into your computer, if it doesn't already install itself, you will probably need to download drivers for the particular model you are using.

After that, you can then use your keyboard with Reason (or any other program) but I'll explain that once you get there.

Here's a search for some MIDI-USB convertors on Ebay

Here's some of the better ones:

The good thing about virtual music is that once you get the basic tools, there's no stopping you. In the future, however, you might consider buying a control unit (e.g. BCR-2000) which can control the controls (e.g. knobs/faders etc.) in Reason while playing live.
