| I was in the mood to create a virtual analog drum combinator, and it came out sweet. HOWEVER. I have one burning question that even after all these years, I just can't determine. I know how to make a kick from a sine wave, how to make a snare and toms, but what would be the best way to go about emulating a hat sound using a VA piece? I know a lot of the vintage machines just used a pcm sample but I was curious what you guys thought. It's not that I'm against using samples, I just wanted to challenge myself for 30 mins or so. Input desired! Thx in advance PS my combi setup involves using a triangle wave and noise with a SUPER short decay and practically no release as the closed hat, which could be plausible, but the open hat really sounds more like a triangle xD (as in, the triangle shaped percussion piece you may find in a band or orchestra).

Haha, this sounds great. I'm the sort of guy who likes making stuff from scratch like that, but I have neither the patience or the competence lol

Awe haha. It was a lot of fun, I just sent it to a friend over collab to see if he wanted to add to it. I could slap it up on the web somewhere if you wanted to see and add to it as well This all started cause I couldn't find machine drum samples haha, I figured the hell with it, combitime. But ya, if anyone has any hat idea please lemme know it's killin me. I suppose a pcm sample would be fine but I KNOW there has to be an acceptable substitute...

download the reason refills collection from the pirate bay, it has a selection of pretty much all the analog drum machines ever.

lol doh. Call me oldschool but I'm not a fan of dling stuff from torrents :\ Not cause I'm worried about there being a problem, it just doesn't make me feel... good... inside I think I decided I'm just gonna use samples for the hats since I have a buttload of 909 & 808 sample sets laying around :]]

No no I hear ya, it's just another medium for filesharing. I shouldn't have blanket statemented it like that. I catch your drift but I know you catch mine too I'm not one of those anti-piracy people anyway, whatever floats peoples boats haha.
