Default Beginner tips?

Hey, I just got Reason yesterday, and I haven't done more with it than trying to figure out what the different things in it are, what they do and how to use them. At first everything seemed mystical, messy and ungraspable. But after watching this video, I learned some really basic things, but I'm still blank on how to actually make music.

I would appreciate some help, like on how to make a basic bassline, beat, melody etc. without the use of a MIDI Controller, as I haven't gotten one yet (will do when I get PayPal/eBay in a few weeks).

If you feel like helping out, add me on jo.sigurd@hotmail.com so I can ask some questions, and maybe learn a thing or two, so I can get this started.

Thanks in advance!

You know I don't mean to come off as a total jerkwad asshole. But I think people often think "Hey this program can make music, I will learn how it works and then I will make music" but they hit a dead end because they have no idea of how musical pieces are structured. I'm not saying that's a terrible thing, I made the same mistake, but while you learn the program you should also learn the basics of how music works. Maybe read a bit on music theory. Anyway I'm not really sure if you're in that situation I just wanted to rant a bit.

Anyway to answer your question. You can use the matrix, built in midi editor, or even use the computer keyboard as a midi controller.

If you read the manual the first two should be fairly easy to figure out. For using your computer keyboard as a midi device in reason. Follow this link.

http://www.reasonforum.com/reason/37...-keyboard.html

That'll explain most of it.

Hope this helps.

No offense given, none taken.

What I'm basically asking is; I know how a song is structured etc. with basslines, melodies and so forth, but my question is how do I make these in reason? It all just seems like a mess of buttons, faders and such i dont know how to make a bassline within the program if you understand what I mean

You can use the matrix (step sequencer device) to triger notes on whatever instrument device you choose. Or you can draw in notes on the instrument's sequencer track. Do you have any experience with any other music software, DAW, or sequencer of any kind?

By the way, is there any way to maximize the Reason window? It's always very small..

Here is a link to Bome's keyboard. You can use this until you get a real one. Just follow the instructions.
http://www.bome.com/midi/keyboard/help/rsn3_tut.php

As far as using Reason, go to the "create" tool bar and open up a mixer. Then create a drum (Redrum). Next, create a processor (like NN XT) and start messing around with some sounds. Reason really is not that hard to learn, well, the basics anyway.

Thanks for the advice, appreciated.
Now, how do I maximize the window? As said, the maximize button does nothing.

I don't have a clue as to why you can't get a full screen on Reason. If it were me, I would reinstall Reason. Then too, it could be a computer glitch.
