| I am trying to experiment a bit with Combinator device. This may sound a silly question to many but how to I get to record a Combinator device? I only wanted to be played for some bars yet I cannot figure it out. I mean in Redrum you convert track to notes , with other samplers you play through midi keyboard and it records. With Combinator I cannot figure it out.Sorry for my ignorance!!! Forgot to mention that I used a preset of Combinator to fiddle around (Lantern preset) Last edited by charos; January 22nd, 2008 at 06:23. |

If you need to record a device inside the combinator, eg "Redrum 1", then you need to right-click it and select "Create Track for ____", then arm the device's track by clicking on it in the sequencer window's left hand side and then recording. Otherwise just arm the Combinator and you're ready to go.

Man, I could really use help with this too, I'm using 4.0. I open a 14:2 mixer first, then if I load a preset combi patch all the devices open on the rack but all I get is silence. If I hit the pads on the trigger finger, there are sounds, but i wanna run the whole loop just through reason by hitting play but I get nothing. I click on the combinator track in the sequencer, I've tried recording, but still just silence.

Some things to check: 1. Is the combinator patch an instrument patch or an effect? Effects won´t generate any sound. 2. Can you see the played notes in the programmer (played notes are indicated in the above piano bar in the programmer where you setup the keyzones) 3. Is the wiring correct? (Combi connected to the mixer) |

I open 4.0 to an empty rack, open mixer 14:2, right click, create instrument, strings, antique film orchestra. Sounds are on Trigger Finger. If I record and hit the pads, I can record notes, but I want to just be able to play some string loops, or any instrument loops for that matter. Wiring is correct. Press play nothing, the run pattern devices button clicks on when I press play in the controls at the bottom, but the devices don't seem to be running.

Not exactly sure what you are talking about, but when you mput multiple devices into a combinator, you still have to record each track individually.

How can I just simply run an instrument loop. I'm only running a Trigger Finger right now. I guess I just don't fully understand much at the moment although I have done a lot of reading and watching tutorial dvd's. When I have the combinator open the trigger finger is always playing the same scale of notes no matter what device I click on inside the combinator. Any way you can help me out with a few vital tips or direct me to place that I can get info from. I used the csi starter from cool breeze but it wasn't too helpful. Dr Rex is obviously easy to use and fun when I sample some drums into a rex file and add some effects, I get some really nice dirty gritty drums and I like that, I just want to be able to tweak customize and play with some accompanying instrument/music loops and then expand to some more original stuff. I just really want to be able to use more devises than just a rex player. If anyone wants to give me a little hand it would be greatly appreciated, I've been a DJ for 10 years and I feel the need to expand my knowledge base. My AIM is Bobbinsonio, thanks for your time.

Thanks man, I'm around all week, can you tell me what you would say the best thing to do for instrument loops is, short of sampling them myself off record? Like any preset instument loops i can play with?
