| I just purchased Reason4, hoping that the the latency issue (ie when playing my midi keyboard) would be resolved. I am using a Yamaha AN1x, which reason doesn't list. My PC is powerful enough too, PIV 3.2Ghz, 2GB RAM. I have adjusted the Audio settings in Prefernces and moved the slider all the way to the left. I used to use Sonar and am used to no latency, but I suppose pure MIDI is that much faster. Anyone got any ideas? Jimi |

How much of a latency are you getting? I get a couple of milliseconds, which I do notice, but it's nothing that the quantize feature can't handle, to edit this setting, press the F8 key.

Thanks for your reply, yes I get milliseconds only also, but I find it irritating playing a bassline for example. I know that quantizing can sort it afterwards, but, correct me if I'm wrong, it's difficult to play live even with only milliseconds of delay. I suppose I could use Sonar to do the 'live' playing on a similar sounding patch and import it as a MIDI file back into reason. Does that make sense? Jimi |

How many milliseconds is "only milliseconds"?? A latency of 5-15ms is IMHO no problem for playing live, but 100ms IS a problem for playing live. So, how many do you have? Do you use an ASIO driver? |

ASIO driver, that could be my problem. I am using a Yamaha sw1000xg sound-card, which I got ASIO drivers for, but at the installation procedure there was a problem. How would I know if the ASIO driver is installed? I will see if I can find an ASIO driver update for the card. Thank you for that |

You can just look into the audio preferences of Reason. In the listbox where you select your output driver should be something with "ASIO" selectable.

wooohooo, what a difference. Since my soundcard is quite old, it was tricky to load the ASIO driver. I had to literally kick my poor PC to accept it, had to physically take the card out, after uninstalling older drivers and reinsert it, then install old drivers and update to the ASIO drivers. Now it's a lot better Thank's to everybody Jimi |
