Question Does anyone know of a software that can do this?

Hi, I just started using Reason and I am new to making music, so please bare with me and I'm sorry if this is a stupid question (like I said, I'm new to this).

I was wondering if there is a software that will enable me to divide a song into separate tracks (bass track, drum track, keyboard track, guitar track, etc.)

Example: there might be song that has a good bass track that I want to use. How can I extract that bass track from the song? or extract a keyboard track, etc?

That'd be pretty cool...

If you need to get a certain track from a song, it's pretty tricky. You can try to find the sample which they used (I have the sample to It Takes Two), which can sometimes be achieved by writing to them.

You can also use filters to remove sounds below a certain frequency, but this is pretty patchy, and doesn't really work.

Nah theres no way. The only thing you can try is what Titan said and try to filter out the sound you want from the song, but I don't think this would work very well at all.

Just do a search for the pianola roll, I think there would be a few out there from the original tracks or at least ones that people have replicated themselves.

I find that the Hi end and low end of samples can easily be filtered. For example usually I can get the bass out of sample with little trouble.

True, but if you're lucky that won't matter, it is going to be a matching tempo over all, so in the grand mix I doubt that it would make much of a difference, unless it's slowpaced or is used with little or instruments.
