| I am new here and have a question that I hope can be answered. Not am I just new here, but relatively new to Reason 3 also. Right now I am faced with a problem that I cannot seem to conquer. I have pulled up a drum patch (Dr. Rex) that sounded pretty appealing to me. At some points during its play, I would like to be able to alter the volume levels of single notes. For instance, there's a percussion hit going on, and I don't care for the same volume height of it carrying throughout the entire length of its run. I can see how to go about altering the 'velocity' of same, but isn't there a way in which the 'volume' level of an individual instrument voice - within a looped patch - to be either increased, or decreased at the user's will? I have looked through the manual, as well as through my 'Reason 3 Power Guide' book, but can find nothing to enlighten me on the subject (unless, of course, it just isn't possible to do as desired). It could be, too, that I read all over what I needed to see, without realizing it. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. Nathan |

If I understand correctly you're trying to change the individual level of a slice within a dr rex loop right? If so, I'll upload a lilttle pic tutorial soon, I'm really really tired right now so I'm gonna get some rest though, be patient please.

Okay so let's say I find a dr. rex drum pattern that I really like. But I find that the snare drum within the loop is a little too over powering? How can I adjust the level of the snare drum sound and only the snare using dr. rex. Well you follow these instructions of course. Okay then you'll see each slice and if you hover over it your mouse cursor will change its icon, click and you'll hear each individual sound. Here's how it looks when you can preview each slice: I've found that my snare comes in on slices 5 and 13. So that's the slices I want to change. Now we go back to our dr rex device. I use the slice knob (pointed out in the pick below) and turn it till it reads "5" and in the graphic display of the loop you'll see that a new slice is now highlighted. Then I turn down the level of that individual slice by turning the level knob (always pointed out in the pic below) and viola, repeat for slice 13 and I'm done. It's as simple as that. As you can see you can also change other dynamics of a single slice such as pitch, panning, and decay. I hope this was direct enough for you and it I hope it helps. If not feel free to ask for more info. Remember to preview your slices so you know which slice that needs the level turned down. And sorry I was so late on this _SG_ |

SG, What you have provided will more than serve to do as I desire to, and I can't thank you enough. It was very nice of you to have spent the time in assembling such a straight forward, and visual approach to my query. Again ~ much appreciation. Blessings, Nathan |
