| I'm trying to get a fluid, "real sounding" string line. I'm using the NN-XT controlled by the Matrix Pattern Sequencer. Basically what I'm having trouble doing is changing from different notes smoothly. If i tie the notes together, I get an unwanted dissonance for a second or two before the previous note stops playing. If i leave the notes untied right before the change, there's a gap of silence between them. I understand that having a midi controller (which i don't have) could probably fix that problem, I'm just looking for an alternate solution using a mouse. I apologize if I'm re-asking a question, i searched around but didn't find a specific answer to this type question. thanks. |

mess around with the "attack", "decay" and "release" knobs on your NNXT and see if that works. If not, you can probably still fix it by going into the Remote Editor and changing the length ("hold", "r" and "decay") of certain samples.

The NNXT also has fade in / fade out knobs at the bottom of the drop down samples window. They can be changed for each individual sample, i'm not cetain how it works as I don't use it. Like Titancow said, I use the decay, attack on NNXT and note length in the sequencer to make better transitions.

Of course, you'd have to select all of the samples before making any changes in the Remote Editor (CTRL-A). Just tweak until you get it right.

You don't need to select all the samples. You may want some to fade out quicker than others, or fade in later. But yes if you do want it consistent then select all the notes. Are you using a mac Titancow? Other ways to select all the samples using a PC are to click on the block to the left of the samples, click and drag a box over them or right click and hit select all. Also, if its not already, change the polyphony to a value greater than 1 so your notes can be stacked. |

i suggest messing with the velocity of the notes in the sequencer -- this will give the playing a more life-like playback -- the attack is altered and the perceived "fade" can change -- for example, when you bring the velocity down, the attack is softer and the note blends in a mix a little more to give more of a "fade" into the mix -- if you want to see how this works, check out the orkester demo song and look at the velocity

I couldn't really get the hang of the decay and such on the remote editor for the nn-xt (i'm still working on it via tutorials) but i did manage to fix my problem by upping the step resolution on the matrix to 1/32 and untying the last note before the change. I hid a little of the choppiness of it with some reverb until i can figure this whole thing out. Thanks for the help!

If you ever want to, just send me the RNS and I can figure it out for you. If I'm able to... lol

when i get it all together, i will surely do so. I'm using Bome's Mouse Keyboard until i can get a real one. It's working fine, except when I try to record.. no audio comes out or on to the sequencer track either. I have the nn-xt armed to record, I have no track armed for my keyboard.. but i didn't see an option for that. I know that, when i record with the matrix, the sequencer is actually recording the matrix pattern instead of the nn-xt. Any suggestions? |
