| If I manuallly ad an KORG 'other' 'midi keyboard w. controls' the functions are very limited/ do nothing, unlike the adapated for korg version which worked perfectly! How do I set it up to work exactly like Reason adapted for korg? Now for some other questions I'm used to 'Fruity Loops', there you make 'loops' which you then sequence in a playlist. Reason does not work like this. So if I make 2/3/more 'patterns' in redrum. How do I get reason to put them on the timetable and play them in the order I want? Am I supposed to select the pos. where I want it with the loop markers and then press "copy pattern to track" in redrum? (just checking Im im understanding how reason works..) Then "SUBTRACTOR". What if I want to 'loop' something there? do I play/record it in manually on the timeline, then copy/paste it over and over again where i want it? Oh and how do I record changes to knobs within Redrum / subtractor/ anywhere? I've probably got a dozen of other questions, but these are the ones that are really keep me from getting properly started in Reason 3! Thank you |

As for your Korg, you've chosen the wrong type of keyboard, instead of other, you should have chosen Korg. If you want to change between patterns, make sure you're recording with ReDrum, then, whenever you want to change the pattern, press the buttons while recording... for example, if you want to change between patterns A1 and A2, start recording. You'll see a section where you can change between patterns, when you change a pattern when you're recording, by press buttons A and 2, it will change automatically for you. This is called "automation" and can be done with any control on any device. If you want to repeat a loop on a sampler or syntheziser (such as a SubTractor), you use the magnet tool and the pencil tool to create a group of notes that you want to repeat over and over again, and yes, you copy and paste the required amount of times.

Thanks As for the controller, I did actually choose "korg" (I was referring to the third field where you choose the type of keyboard which is 'other' So still no succes on that one. But Shouldn't Reason detect it in the 'Surface dectection' screen? I'ts not like its an old controller, or not supported.. It even has presets for Reason, so it should work. Im not suprised that I have to copy/paste' the played in SubTractor sections by hand, I just wanted to check if i was 'getting' how Reason works One more question (for now |

No you can't record anything acoustic like that directly. You have to record it with other software, like Sound Forge, slice it, turn it into a rex file with ReCycle, then load it into a Dr. Rex loop player. I think that you can buy these devices that turn electric guitar signals into MIDI (Reason can only record MIDI input). Rewire is for loading Reason as a device into another program, like Cubase. Also, if you are using an NN19, I think that you can loop that without copying and pasting, I saw something like that but didn't have time to experiment.

Reason 3 still doesn't detect the KORG microKontrol, while according to the manual it should (like the special korg demo edition of reason) When I add the controller manually I lose almost all functionality.

Well I, having only a very basic MIDI keyboard, and having absolutely no experience with KORGs can't help you out that much. I was having problems with getting my keyboard hooked up to reason - I just had to keep on re-installing and kept on trying to add the keyboard, and eventually it worked. But I had to keep my keyboard plugged in at all times Anyway, this doesn't really have much to do with Reason, we aren't the right crowd to help you with your problem. I'd recommend e-mailing KORG support (there's gotta be some somewhere) or asking for advice on a different forum, one related to KORGs or MIDI. Regards, Titancow

ive got the same problem. i'm using reason 4. i have my microkorg plugged in via MIDI-USB using a Mistar MIDILINK cable. the device installed on my PC but when i try and use it within reason i have nothing. no midi input or anything, i tried to do as you did and selected Korg, other etc but no use when you ask reason to search for a midi controller it says no device is detected even tho in control panel in windows it says the device is working properly and is plugged in. !!!!SOOO frustrating! I don't have any ideas so please if anyone out there has a clue about how to hook the microkorg and reason up let me know! i dont want to have to buy a 30quid simple midi keyboard after ive just spent 30quid on a friking midi usb cable! Thanks Ewan |

For whatever reason, you don't have the drivers for your Korg installed right. I don't have a Korg so I can't tell you how. You might want to check their web site and try some different drivers. It's not Reason's fault, it's getting the right drivers installed. Try completely deleting everything you've installed with Korg and start over. I had to do his with a new keyboard of mine recently.
