Layer several instruments playing same notes.

i saw someone on youtube add the Scream Distortion and set the master volume to full blast. But turn off all the the effects first. not sure if it works

EDIT: and first make sure volume on kicker is on full blast. and that the notes for it are all set to hard (pink not yellow)

Layer it and use a compressor with a late attack.

Check that the attack on the instrument is set as low as you can go without it changing the sound of the bass.

The scream is great for bass, wire one up and flick through the presets. The volume doesn't have to by right up, put a copressor after the scream before you start flicking through the presets. That way you want get any clipping and the quiter scream settings will become more prominent.

Really it is all about getting you compressors right.

i agree with using a compressor for the bass -- you can pump up the volume but you won't risk the bass completely getting out of control and taking over -- but i also suggest adding the mclass eq -- this is the tool i use to tweak the overall tone/feel of the bass -- i find you can really alter the feel of the whole song just by tweaking the bass -- so if you want punchy, you may want to add some gain to the lo shelf (just a little) and add more gain the the middle range -- activate the knobs and turn them so you cover the whole middle range -- smooth it out or keep it spiky and there you go
