Have you configured your MPD as a midi controller in reason yet? If you haven't go to Edit>Preferences>Then in the "Page:" dropdown box click Control surfaces and Keyboards. If you've already down this then it may be possible that you're not arming the instrument's track for record. You do that by clicking on the track's red dot then clicking the record button next to reason's play button and start recording.

well i noticed that the MPD16 is only going to Channel 2 on the Midi input on the top of my rack. it will NOT go to channel 1. when my Oxygen8 is hooked up to channel one, and i push record, it actually records. but it seems it is not recording the MPD which is coming through only on Channel 2 of the midi input. is there a way to either change this or allow recording on channel 2?

Usually changing channels is associated with a button on your keyboard somewhere, look at your manual, if your keyboard supports multiple channels find the button and put on channel one then try recording.
