Can't help you with the mic's, it's somthing i'm going to be looking at in the near future once i've free'd up some cash, this question was posed a few weeks back to no responses. It's hard to believe that the hundreds of people that pass through here have no thoughts on this. C'mon people. As for the avatar just click on usercp at the top left of this page and go from there. |

Yeah, no one seems to give a damn about mics on this forum. And you can go to edit avatar but it doesnt let you upload anything.

I recommend a Studio Projects C1 microphone. I use it for vocals from R&B and Pop stuff to Rap vocals.

Hello. I was reading throught the forum, and saw this post. It's hard to respond without knowing what your looking for, because when it comes to mics, it's like anything else in sound: it depends on what your using it for and the sound you want to get. But here's some of my initial thoughts on the matter. Also, what I have to say may be basic to you- I don't know how much you've been working with mics already. I haven't messed around with mics for a while, so I may be a bit cloudy on the details, but I always have a Sure SM58 around for good measure. It's a uni-directional microphone, meaning it amplifies only what is going directly into it as opposed to an omni-directional, which would pick up a range of sounds coming in from around it as well (sounds great in a kick drum). I like the SM58 for vocals a lot, although there are way better mics around. It's just a cheap, reliable way to amplify all kinds of thngs. I've used it first and foremost with vocals, then with acoustic guitar, as well as with all other kinds of random sounds. Because it is uni-directional, it's not my favorite for things where I want more ambiance- like percussin stuff. I have also had a hard time getting good live percussion sounds that I wanted to sample. I have used it extensivly live, and with 4-track recordings. It's great for live vocal stuff! I have A TON of friends in the business, and they all seem to agree that this is a good basic mic to have in any mic kit. As far as a mic that would produce super dope live sounds for digitzing- I haven't gotten that far yet, but I'm on my way there. I have a friend who builds microphones, and I've put a call in to him to get his opinion on the matter. If he gets back to me with any good info, I'll be sure to let you know. Also, if your interested, I can keep you posted on things that I find out. As for the kind of music I have worked on: I'm into ALL kinds of music- seriously ALL kinds. I played and recorded noise/punk for years, then some very UNcatergorizeable/pop/experimental music. For the past few years, I have been mostly intersetd in hip-hop, IDM and electronic dance music. Peace, Miss Manners |

Wow Ms Manners thanks for that replay and all the detail you put into it. I actually have obtained a mic it's the mxl USB.006. It's very clear but has a very wide range so it picks up alot which is great because i can sample different kinds of sounds but what sucks now is that if I want it to really sound good for my vocals (I do vocals for hip hop) It would probably be best to soundproof my room or some other room in my house. I think that's a good solution, right? Anyway actually I actually would like your friend to answer one question. What would be the best mic for the hip hop genre? Thanks again for you eagerness to help.

Ok, I record myself (Rap) and my singer (R&B) with this mic: AKG Perception 200 Condenser Microphone http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/pro..._sku=103058004 At the time I got it, it was a bit more expensive but it comes with a case and all. You always want to go with a condenser microphone for recording. Here is the better version of the AKG Perception: http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/pro..._sku=103724068 That one doesn't come with a Shockmount though. You also want to get a good preamp to give the mic feedback. Without a preamp you will sound like karaoke. If you're on a budget I would go with: http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/pro...ull_sku=180360 http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/pro..._sku=101966174 But the better the preamp you get the better the sound. You also need a Pop filter: http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/pro...ull_sku=420373 You can just search Pop filter, they have all kinds. Get at me if you have any more questions. |
