Question Pro Tools M-Powered

just wondered what the difference is between Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered ?
Is Pro Tools M-Powered some kind of add-one ? Or a complete, somehow "extended", version of Pro Tools ?
So it basically comes down to the question... What's the difference ?

Thanks in advance

yes ... the m-box is a lesser expensive pro tools set up ..

BUT if your not recording on a regular basis pro tools isnt a necessary
piece for your studio ... i make superb sounding recordings useing
reason , nuendo , adobe audition , and wavelab.

pro tools is an excellent (as well as industry standard) addition for a studio
but not totally necessary to produce great sounding stuff ...
keys suggests to work with STEINBERG tools before progressing to pro tools
its lesser expensive and the end results are just about the same ...
dont be fooled into spending 3000 to set up a pro tools rig if its not going
to pay you back ...feel me i mean if artists aren't paying you NOW to
do work .. software will do the same job as a pro tools set up with less
the expense..

of course this is just my humble opinion

don't get me wrong, i'm not at all planning to invest that much money... just wanted to get an idea what pro tools is about. atm i use adobe audition and i'm more than satisfied with it. i don't have any hardware except this pc and a simple sound system... so i'm not even close to producing music professionally.
but i'm planning to get a midi-keyboard/controller... any advice what to look for when you get started/whats usefull whats not to begin with ? How much to spend ?
thank you of course for your reply in the first

In the near future, I'm going to get an Oxygen 8 keyboard by M-Audio. I've heard that they are really good keyboards. It costs about $180 or so on the M-Audio site but it costs $130 on www.musiciansfriend.com. That site has a lot of good deals on music equipment. Also check www.zzounds.com. They should help you out with saving a bit of money.

Default The low down

ok guys lemme explain a few things for ya ...
if your looking into gitting a MIDI controller
you can actually go to a pawn shop or radio
shack ... or even a flea market and find a keyboard
as long as the board has MIDI out you can control any
software you have, it doesnt have to be a expensive.
remeber MIDI is only a signal sent to your PC..now
dont get me wrong a GOOD controller will have the ability to
control note velocity ..and some even have weighted keys
just like the one i have ... but if your just gettin started
get something inexpensive .. WAL_MART has a yamaha
keyboard on sale now with MIDI out/in/and thru for 100 dollars
now thas a good deal has 76 keys..sweet deal ...(krames look into it)

born if your really new to the production game look into that
man...and 1 more thing if your useing ADOBE AUDITION then
all you need are a few cool VST plug-ins..because ADOBE AUDITION
files will open in PRO TOOLS ..but PRO TOOLS files wont open in ADOBE

hope this helps you cats out a bit...

You'll also need a good sound card, otherwise you'll have a real bad latency (!50ms). I think if you get an USB one, then this isn't an issue.

Try the Bome's Mouse Keyboard first. You can play with your regular computer keyboard. Of course, this is nowhere close to real keyboard, but if you need it for simple things, like basslines or something like that, it could work. They also have a tutorial for setting it up with Reason 3.

I recently went from Adobe Audition to Pro Tools M-Powered. The biggest diff. is that PT has the option for massive expansion and way more options... but I do in a lot of ways miss AA because of how many dope FX and there were. The delays/etc. were terriffic, easy to use, and all "stock" options. I find myself fighting (and paying) to learn and have the ability to do the same thing in PT. Adobe Audtition has a GREAT sound to it also, and the "trackability" has something unique to it that I cant put my finger on.

All in all, I HAD to move on to PT because my field of work is taking me in that direction, but had AA had more expandability, I would have happilly stayed with Adobe.

And on the MIDI controller note, dont spend $100 on a shi**y Walmart board, they make extremely inexpensive ones to fit any budget. Check sweetwater or ebay.
