Recording problems!!

Can anybody help me? Ive added an ECF-42 filter to my redrum. Im trying to bring my kit in with the filter but when i hit record the filter isnt being recorded...this is happening with any other devices i add - scream 4 or phaser etc - prob something easy im missing...any help?
