| since it's my first Post, i'll introduce myself shortly: My name's Jokke, i'm 23 years old and i love music. I've been using Reason for over four years now. First mainly for Hip-Hop productions but nowadays I focus on electronica and D'n'B. I have a Problem and i can't figure out what it is. It's nothing technical, it's just about the way I make my Songs and it's starting to frustrate me so much, that i leave most of my songs unfinished. Something is missing from my songs at the 'hook' that would make it feel like one. It becomes even clearer, if i use some "swhoosh" effects or similar a few beats before to bring up some tension. Then comes the dissapointment: the hook feels/sounds pretty much the same as the rest. There's nothing "bombastic" to it. I wan't to learn, how to make hooks that blow your mind! Maybe it's something basic I haven't even thought about. But no matter how much I listen to others music, I can't make out the "secret ingredient". I hope you know what i mean. |

It's going to be a different answer for each person, but an idea that just popped into mind --that you can use once anyway, wouldn't repeat it-- is to pan everything hard R/L during the section just in order to make an audible difference for the moment. Could be striking enough to work. Even smaller things might do it like automating an eq a little, switch off a reverb... Maybe the beat needs some momentary syncopation. You could invert the chords. A little goes a long way.
