Yes, external audio interfaces have a better sound quality and lower latency compared to average sound cards. Whether you connect your controller via USB or MIDI doesn't matter very much. I'd go with USB, because 1) most external interfaces have only one MIDI in/out pair, 2) MIDI isn't bus-powered, so you'd need a separated power supply for your controller. |

Ok. But if I go with one keyboard in the laptop's USB and one in the audio interface's midi in/out, would it be the same thing? I mean does the software recognize both of them [both with no latency]? [I'm asking because I've got only 2 USB ports xD]

Latency doesn't come from the keyboards to begin with -- both MIDI and USB signals reach the computer almost instantaneously. The lag comes from generating and buffering the sound after the note has been received. Latency is only due to the software and the soundcard. |
