| Gating can be used to automatically add rhythm to any instrument. When you use gating, there's no need to hammer out complicated rhythm patterns on your keyboard; just hold down a chord, and let your favorite drum loop do all the work. Example: here I use Dr. Rex to add rhythm to a rather boring pad progression: http://soundcloud.com/electro-nebula...r-gate/s-5yyUx The idea is simple: insert an ECF-42 envelope-controlled filter between your instrument and the mixer, and then connect Dr. Rex's Gate Output jack to Env. Gate jack of the filter. This way, every slice of the drum loop will momentarily open the filter, giving your instrument a rhythmic pattern identical to that of the drum loop. I've attached a basic Combinator patch that does the job. (remember to hit Play!) |

I use gated synths all the time but I have actually never thought of using the ECF-42 this way... I will definatly try this eventhough I don't use sampled drum loops very often. Good work Nebula! |
