Default Panning causes loss of volume??!!

Why does panning instruments hard right cause a drastic loss of volume but retain some reverb effect, and panning hard left cause an increase in volume. It's as if the pan pot is hardwired like a pre fader aux input, or something.....This is only happening in one session, by the way. In other session the panpots are working as normal. I've checked all the connections on the flip slide and all seems ok. Could it be a glitch of some kind?
Thanks
