Was just wondering about some stuff maybe you guys might know about.
I used to use cubase and some other minor software for cheap beats and for digitally organizing input instruments. I just picked up reason and was wondering what instruments or devices in reason you find are the most fit for making hip-hop/rap style beats and melodies. I've been playing with it, but theres ssssooooooo much haha

The break down :

Drums : If you are sampling drum then the NN-XT Sample.

Basslines : Subtractor has good sounding basslines.

Sample : NN-XT is also what I use for samples.

Synth : Here is where you get overwhelming but this is a good thing because as soon as you find your work flow then you are going to like all the options that you have. Just go to "Create Instruments" and find the sound you like. I would open a module and then look for sounds for that module use the "Create Instrument" pull down option to add synths and keys to your beat.

Forgot to mention use Recycle to chop you samples and then open the "recycle files" with NN-XT

i am not surprised. as i too use those kinda instrument to play hip hops. And of-course style of beats and melodies with use of those instument make me much peleasure during listening hip hops.
