| I have been using Reason for a few years now. But recently I got a problem that is preventing me from using it. I am quite desperate for help. Here it is. I am using Reason 4.0 on Acer Pc with a simple Evolution Midi Keabord I bought it from a friend and it didnt have any drivers. I used this keyboard to control the sounds from Reason for a long time without any problem. But recently every time I plug the keaboard on usb this message appear on Reason "MIDI problem The Midi port may be in use by another application" and the keyboards just doesnt work. I have 2 other messages when opening Reason : 1 "MIDI input problem One or several MIDI inputs cannot be opened. They migh be in use by another application. Open the preferences dialogue and check your MIDI settings" 2 "Reason couldnt set up the control surfaces properly ..." Ive had those 2 messages before but I was able to use my keyboards. I am not using another music software working with the midi controller and have no idea what to do. I have reinstalled reason, I have tried the MIDI Ox software but when I select my usb keyboard it says "undefined external error" And if I go into Preferences > advanced control and select my usb keyboard on the MIDI clock sync I get the same message "The MIDI port may be in use by another application" I am desperate here and have no idea what could cause this even less how to fix it. This situation is crippling me very much, I have several projects that I need to finish very soon and cannot do it without Reason. Does anyone know what i could do? I should add that I am really not confortable with computer language and very technical stuff, Im not very good at this and dont understand much. But please, I desperatly need help!! Thanks in advance Matthieu |

If MIDI OX doesn't recognize your keyboard, the problem isn't in Reason, but in the drivers. 1) Look up the model of your keyboard (e.g. MK-249) and install the latest drivers from the M-AUDIO site (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver). If you're on Windows, here's a direct link http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=...drivers&f=1088 (don't bother filling it all out, just scroll down to the download link) 2) Try plugging your keyboard into a different USB port. Sometimes ports get damaged or cannot source enough power. |

Well, the keyboard is recognised by my Pc and it appears in the list of MIDI inputs on MIDI OX but when i select it it says undefined external error. I installed the programm from your link. Now when i open reason the 2 first messages before starting appear, but not the last message "allready in use..." but the keaboard is stil inactive, and if I select it in advanced control the message comes back. and also, after installing the M audio programm I cannot find anything in the programms bar or anything |

If you aren't getting the "Already in use" error anymore, you might want to try re-detecting your keyboard in the preferences. The problem may be resolved, and just need to set it back up?
