Default automation problems

A somewhat nooby question. I cant seem to edit the automation on the effect devices on the mixerboard. I have this sick track with a good synth riff on Malstrom and want the effect to kick in after the first few loops. But the edit automation for the effect buttons is grayed out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The Indian

Before you edit automation, you have to press the record button and arm the devices you wish to automate for record.

i dont really see what you mean by "arming" the devices. I just want to have certain effects that i have attached to my mixer to activate at certain times. For example i have a unison-16 that i want to kick in for my bass line towards the end of my song. The bassline is in a nn-19 sampler and when i right click the effect button above my bass line (unison is attached to channel 1) the "edit automation" is grayed out and i cant automate it.

Nevermind I'm a genius. It's kind of tricky but I got it. Right click on your unison device then go to create, then go to squencer track for unison. Now creating that track allows your unison for automation of the "Bypass, On, Off" buttons on your unison. Simply turn your unison from off to on (with the record button already pressed so the automation takes place) when you want it to kick in for your bass. If you're still having problem then just post again.

yea i did what you said and it does work but only for On or Off. Thanks. But what I meant was i wanted the knobs for effects on the mixer wouldn't automate. Meaning i cant adjust the strength of each effect attached. But if their isnt a way around it i can just do it your way.

Oh my bad. Well then while your track is recording change what you want on the mixer when you want and it'll keep track, just tested it my self, don't use the edit automation. go to the exact time you want a change, and turn the knob while the track is playing/recording.

Its so easy:
1) in the sequencer window (pc)right click/(mac)ctrl+click where are the instruments tracks and select: Create sequencer track.
2) In this new track click on the small arrow and you'll see a list of the devices in the rack. Select the effect —in this case— you want to automate (unison alright?)
3) Focused on this track, in the secuencer window: In the upper toolbox is a mid blue & blue button (the 7th button). Click it, it turns on the next three buttons.
4) Click the 8th button and select >Show device controllers, and you will see all the automatable controllers of your device (Detune and dry/wet knobs, voice count button, enable-disable-bypass switch).
5) Now, the only thing you need to do is draw (i preffer to use the line tool) in the controller track you want to automate. You can zoom in and out each controller track.
6) The other blue buttons in the toolbox are very functionally when the device you're automating have a lot of controllers. Just click above them and see what they do.
