Default Hooking up with midi?

So I got an axiom 49 2nd gen and of coarse I used usb because thats what it came with. I don't know what happened but the usb port is coming loose inside and its causing the controller to disconnect when have it in my lap and move it. It looks tuff to fix and so I though about what I could to make it work perfect again.

How bout hook it up with Medi? It has medi connections and my sound card has a midi on the drive bay box. So why wouldn't this work with reason 5? Any reason? Theres even usb to medi cables I see, don't know if that would work.

I think I just need to get those adapters that convert the little midi to the big midi big, I probably can't find mine and I need to get a midi cable. I just want to verify that this will work.

Are there plus sides/downsides to mid?. Not that it matters because I obviously need to use it or find a way to get my usb jack repaired. But every thing will be the same connected with midi right?

Thanks for reading

Hi there,

There are certain downsides with working using 'generic' MIDI rather than your midi controller's USB cable, namely the ease of which the control values are sent to reason - that is you may find some functionality is missing, especially if you have faders/pots on your keyboard (and if i remember rightly the axiom does have these). Though you can then set these up, sometimes (depending on the keyboard), it can be more of a pain than others. Other times, it will work exactly the same as before.

Just to confirm with you though, using a MIDI cable WILL work with Reason. I have 1 set of keys hooked up with MIDI and the other with USB, so I know it's definately possible.

Get a set of MIDI cables and have a play around. I guarentee it will work on a basic level, and you can always set up the control values to work to your taste.
