| I'm using the Demo of Reason to try it.. safe to say I'm lovin it. I have a Roland Juno-D and have to buy a midi/usb cord because my sound card doesn't have a midi input unfortunately... but that's not my question. My question is: I've watched a tutorial where I saw a guy showing his voice being head in the Audio Input of Reason. I noticed that Reason will not pick up my voice from my headphone mic that's hooked into the headphone jack of the computer. Audacity recognizes my voice this way, but Reason doesn't hear it. Do I need to do something special to hear my voice in Reason, such as buying an external device or can I make it recognize the mic from my mic input on the com? Thanks for any advice you have. |

Not without Record. Record allows you to record audio in along with Reason. The only way to get outside audio (instruments, voice, etc.) into Reason is to record your voice or whatever in Audicity (or any other suitable program) and save that as .wav samples. Then you would import those into one of the samplers. Hope this helps, good luck!! Dose |

Oh, I see. Thanks, I didn't know that. I thought when they were sampling their voice in Reason, it was a Reason thing and not because they had Record in the background. So, if I'm not mistaken, I need to purchase Record, have it running or hooked up to Reason in order to sample my voice in Reason? Another reason I ask is because Reason doesn't hear my audio so I can't sample the instruments in Reason either. Another thing to ask, since I'm here, it seems to me that Record does everything plus recording audio tracks. So, why need Reason if Record has everything that Reason does... or does Record have everything Reason does because Record is feeding off of Reason's goodies? Hope that makes sense. Thanks again for the talk. Love Reason so far.. I may have to purchase this. It's more awesome than I thought. |

Ok, first off....you can "sample" all you want in Reason. However, the samples have to come from an outside source (Audicity for example). They need to be pre-recorded samples in .wav format. Then you load the samples into whichever sampler you want. You can not get real-time audio-in into Reason itself. To get the instruments to play, you can draw the notes in the sequencer, program patterns in the Matrix pattern sequencer, play them with a midi controller...or a combination of all 3. As far as Reason/Record, look at it this way....Record is the recording studio, and Reason is the instruments and effects you bring to the studio. You can run either as stand-alone, but you will miss elements from the latter. The great part about these two programs is that they run seamlessly together as one big giant program. Hope this helps...good luck! Dose |

Thanks for the Record/Reason lesson and it totally makes sense. I will definitely pursue it then. As for the sampling within Reason, the tutorials I've purchased, along with ones I've watched online about Reason 5, show the guy saying you can now sample within Reason and as he talks, he shows the lights indicated in Reason that he is getting a signal. He then says Hello as he holds the sample button in REDRUM. That's why I'm confused on the whole thing. He didn't bring in his voice from a .wav file, rather he showed the signal picked up in Reason and sampled directly from Reason 5. |

OH....ok, I was totally confused and on another planet for a bit....yes, this can be achieved in Reason 5. To get back to your original question with your mic not working...have you checked your properties in Reason, and if so, how about your actual PC/Mac audio properties? I know personally I have driven myself crazy on why I couldn't record voice to find out my mic output level was all the way down.... Dose |

No worries, I'm often on another planet myself. As for the properties, I guess they are correct. I know that my Mic is being picked up when I speak in Audacity so it must be working correctly because I can also record in it as well as Camtasia. So, it's definitely not a Mic thing and isn't muted because it works. For some reason, I'm not receiving a signal from Reason when my headphone Mic is plugged in. I'm sure Reason picks up a Mic signal from the Mic jack on the computer surely. BTW, to make it easier, I use Windows XP on my laptop and am about to install the demo on my desktop with Windows 7 to see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the help so far. |

Just in case anyone stumbles across this site and has the same problem as I did, just download the ASIO drivers from the ASIO4ALL website and it should work for you too. Not really sure how active this place is, but I found the answer over at the official Propellerhead forum, so hopefully it helps out here if someone has a similar problem. |

Thanks for posting a solution to your issues, As you said, anyone else finding the same problem as you can now try it to see if it works for them. Congrats!
