Anyone have an idea how to make that epic horn-ish sound found in some rap songs? This one uses it from the very beginning:

but a lot of hip hop comes from sampling, the act of finding the certain sounds you want and looping/editing them into your own work.

I'd suggest looking into different music genres, maybe classical or soundtrack if you're looking for epic horns

Been away here for a few days and trying to catch up. From what I'm hearing in this particular song is more synthesized than actually sampled. I might be wrong being you can make anything sound like anything if you toy with it enough. My suggestion would be to browse through synth patches on Subtractor, Thor, etc. until you find something that works for you. Even if it is close, you can manipulate and tweak it to your liking. If you want to get closer to a "real" horn sound, use a NN-XT and browse the Orkestra bank. At that point you can layer on top of that endlessly. My ultimate suggestion, though, is to find a sound that is yours, more original to your sound. Use the song you mentioned as a launch pad to your own creativity, not as a carbon-copy. Good Luck!

i mix synth horns in with the horn patches in the Orkester
just make sure the synth horns are under the Orkester horns and
it's more so about the chords you use to make the EPIC SOUND.
