I see where lanes are useful is where you wish to have a set of percussion instruments in a track but do not always want them to play together, but want to avoid having a seperate redrum or pattern. If you had 8 layers of percussion each in their own lanes the variations can be easier to create than having seperate pattern for each arrangement or combination. One very important thing is you will be able to add a layer of percussion without recording over your existing one that works (a different 'take' in another lane ) . Assitionally 'lanes' enables the overlapping of starts and ends of each lane differently at various parts of your track. This means you add variation and/or a more improvised human feel to the mix more affectively with less work. I often use lanes to sperate the bass drum from the accent snare or the closed hi hat from the open hat. It just seems to be a more efficent way of working overall. Thanks. That does make sense now. Perhaps sometimes the same thing could apply with a guitar, particularly the accoustic, as thats what I play most. I'm not good enough to do what many talented guys do, but I'm thinking this could help achieve what I wanted. I tried to join these lanes as well, but couldn't. The option to join was greyed out and inaccessible, even though I selected some of them. Any ideas why? |
