Default Preview Instruments

Hi, how do I preview instruments? Every time I create an instrument it won't let me preview it first. I'm using Bome's MousKeyboard as my midi controller at the moment. Thanks.

Bome's has an option somewhere in it's preferences to keep it on top of other programs. From what I remember you can click on a patch in the reason browser and then shift the focus to Bome's and play around.

Haven't gotten the Yamaha worked out yet, huh? Might be time to call Reason customer support http://www.propellerheads.se/support...n=display_main I called Line 6 (PHeads US Distributor) about something recently, good people

Thanks for the reply, but I think maybe I wasn't specific enough. You know when you click on "Create Instrument" a new window opens called "Patch Browser". When you select an instrument from the list you're supposed to be able to preview the sound of the instrument below, right? I can't seem to do that. The play button is not clickable. How do I fix this? Thanks.

Arrow

Lily,

I recommend selecting a folder within the instrument patch browser, whether you want strings, bells and mallets, bass, etc. Next just select ANY of the instruments. Then a synthesizer will open in your tower... maybe a malstrom or stubtractor or Thor, depending on your version of Reason. Within that synthesizer there will be a little "lcd" display that has the name displayed of the exact type of instrument you picked within the folder... next to it are up and down arrows where you can cycle through the entire folder of specific instruments like strings, bells and mallets, or basses, etc. From here I use the midi controller to press any key and quickly sample the sound, then press up or down arrow for the next. Then if you are still in need, click the open folder button next to the up and down and select a new folder of instruments, and repeat.

Hope this helps, this may be the hard way to preview but it works.

Ah, that play button is only for .rex/rx2 files and samples, otherwise you preview using Bomes or (hopefully you'll get it working) your keyboard.
