Default how do you build a song?

hey

my question is this

Let´s say you have a melody
Have you found that there is a way/order in the way you work with building a song

for example
first using a synth/piano then the bass and then drums and so on...

grateful for answers

lol ... what FX ? ... envelope , reverb , echo , sidechain , vocoding , panning .... dunno if the guy is helped with this answer ... and the winner is : .........

Anyhow ...

Personally i start with drumz , then i add some percussion to it , then i often create a bass-line ( Which can be changed while im working on the melody ) , then i grab a piano (Doesnt matter which one ..) to play the Melody . When i got the melody working right , im replacing the piano with : or a self made patch ,or a patch outa the box ( Depends on my level of lazyness )

When i got something to work with , i copy that what ive got , so it gets doubled ... , then i create a break (Middle of the song ...) , most of the time its a easy part , some strings ... soft drums , etc ...

After the break comes the same as whats in front , though most of the time i enhance this piece so it sounds very different than the piece before the break ... ( Most of the time i automate some parameters , like Freq , Env , ...)

The intro , i keep most of the time a bit "easy" ,... i know im not there yet ..but i like to get the "Wall of sound" idea ...

When i got a the track in full lenght , i grab my acapella's , and gonna puzzle with them , and if that doesnt work ... , i leave them ...

Now its time for me to throw in some FX ( Woosh , reverse cymbals etc ... ) , also i take a look at the ReGroove mixer , to test if the drums sound better with or without ...

Now its time to master ... EQ-ing , compression ... ( Keepin my Spectrum analiser in eye )

But , there are times i dont follow the above ... , but you'll have to see for yourself whats the best way to work ...

Greetzzzzzzzzz and good luck !

Arrow instrument packs?

Nice post. I like your structure system. I see that you have posted on soundclick too. Do you use any particular sound packs or instrument/drum packs that you care to go into detail about. I am sort of in a "writer's block" with trying to find new sounds and inspiration.

I used FL Studio for years and played with just the standard sounds that came with the deluxe package... they got old and didn't sound genuine. Then I switched to reason and I do like the sounds better, but I feel like I'm missing out on some custom instrument packs out there that can be brought in and used with reason.

Thanks for feedback

Hi hoguefilm !

Nope , i dont use any specific refill ( thats how Reason soundpacks are called ) , though i have one specific refill packed with Rex files : "Firestorm.rfl" which i use occasionally ... ( DnB drums refill )

I do own some refills , but its more fun to create a patch by yourself

But if you want to get into Reason itself , and all its possibility's ( Creating own synths , fx etc ...) i only can advise you the following site :

http://evanderheide.demon.nl/reason/index.php

Just sign in , be polite (lol) , and have a look on the tutorials Hydlide made ... , still if u need specific help , you can always ask it on the forum ... or you can visit the Chatroom for personal advise by one of the members ... ( Am a member myself as well .. , and i can tell you that this community rocks when it comes to helping out eachother ... , and when youre not into creating music , you can always stop by and have a laughter or 2 )

Do hope you can grab some usefull info overthere !

Greetzzzzzzzzzz
