You did check the preferences on the "advanced control" section, right? in the 1st section next to Bus A it should say the name of your midi hookup, same thing under "midi clock sync"

Yup, I checked there. But the thing is that the Yamaha keyboard is not listed there. My only option under that list is MPU-401. I think Reason is not recognizing my keyboard. Maybe I need to change my driver to make it work with Reason? Thanks

AH! that might be it right there, I have a Yamaha too and had to set it to:
"<other> midi control keyboard" on the Keyboards and Control Surfaces page.

I already tried that. The thing is that I can't select the Yamaha driver in the "Advanced Control" section. Since you also have a Yamaha, can you tell me what driver you're using and where I can get it?

I'm using an M-Audio Uno midi cable, so that's what it says in there, that's what the section is for in our case: the driver for the cable, not the keyboard. searched around online and found this on buy.com for your cable -

"Easy to install with built-in driver; USB powered, no AC adapter needed
1. Connect the cable marked "in" to the MIDI OUT socket of a MIDI keyboard
2. Connect the cable marked "OUT" to the MIDI IN socket of a MIDI keyboard
3. Plug the USB cable into any free USB socket on your computer.the red LED will light to show power on.
4. Open your music software program,e.g.Cubase, Sonar, etc
5. Set the music program's MIDI In and MIDI Out devices to "USB Audio Device"
6. Your USB to MIDI interface is now ready for ruse
7. To save potential problem,it is recommended that this interface is always connected to the same USB as it was originally instally on to prevent multiple installations of the d river
Latest version with a built-in driver
LED power indicator; MIDI in & out signal indicator; Supports: Windows and Mac
Package Include: USB2.0 Data Link cable x 1, L x 1 User ManualSupports Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP Mac OS 9x and Vista.
Turn your PC into a music studio by connecting a music keyboard to your computer with the USB MIDI cable
USB powered and Class Coppliant for true plug &play. Just plug it to any usb port on pc & it'll install itself
Warranty: 1 year"

So aside from all those typos, it seems it should simply say "USB Audio Device"

hey 3rdfloor, thanks for the info, but unfortunately I'm still having trouble with Reason.

I checked in my device manager and "USB Audio Device" is definitely installed and pretty sure it is my Yamaha keyboard. So I'm really starting to believe that the problem lies with Reason. For some reason, Reason is not recognizing the device. Are there any more information on the website you found that's specifically for Reason? Thanks

Have you uninstalled the secondary drivers you were testing? I'm wondering if after installing the wrong drivers, the settings problem was worked out but there's no way of knowing when the wrong drivers are installed. worth a shot uninstalling the cables drivers and reinstalling to test it anyway.

Another thought - have you installed the 4.01 update? http://www.propellerheads.se/downloa...reason_updates

Hi

I have got a Yamaha keyboard too, with the same problem. But in my case, the 3 LED's on the MIDI interface only lights red and orange, not green.. And that's never good.
I already read all these posts, yet nothing seems to help. Reason 4.0 doesn't recognise my keyboard, so I had to add one. Does it make any difference to set your control surface to Keyboard with or without controls?? Since I own a Yamaha YPT-210 it hasn't got any controls.. And viewcon: Is it necessary that viewcon is on?

thanks!

I had the same problem with my Yamaha keyboard, I think we have the same USB Midi cable too.

1. Make sure the USB IN cable goes to USB out on the keyboard, and Out goes to IN.
2. For my keyboard, I had to enable PC mode, which is done my holding down the demo button for a few seconds and I selected PC Mode (PC2) and it worked.

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, I can send the link to that yet, because I have enough jobs. But if you go to Ebay and search for "USB MIDI interface" see. It's black with a treble clef in the center.
