Default MIDI not working. Please help.

Hello all,

I currently have Reason 3. My hardware is as follows:

AMD Athlon 3400 (64 bit)
WinXP 32 bit
Two sound cards:
ESS something( a cheap one which has a MIDI port in)
the onboard sound card which is an nVidia nforce4 chipset or whatever.

I have a Yamaha PSR 520 that is really old. The cursor keys don't work anymore. But the rest of the keyboard is still functional. I bought the cheap ESS so that I could plug my keyboard in.

Reason wouldn't detect the keyboard/control surface, but did detect ESS. To further try stuff out, I downloaded MIDIOX and Midiyoke, and it seems that Midiox doesn't actually detect any notes coming in.

I've tried all I can and there's not much I can modify on the keyboard. If anyone is familiar with this setup or has done something like this before, can you please help me? I have been trying this for ages, and its not working. Would really like to get this going.

Also, I can't afford hardware, would rather have this an easy cheap way.

Thank you very much.

Okay I had a similar problem with my keyboard, I got a usb to midi cable though and reason wouldnt detect my keyboard on the scan or whatever. What I did is I went to control surfaces and added a keyboard but made a custom one(meaning I choosed the controller type and the midi in and out) select the midi out for whatever driver you've installed for instance mines was the USB to midi cable. Oh and if can't get this to work because of the drivers I highly suggest to get usb to midi cables. After I installed the drivers and figured it out the cable works like a charm.

Is your keyboard controlling? You most set your device as master. Then, have you enable the midi focus in your reason? and the remote control option? Someday i has a yamaha developed midi-usb interface and i never could made it work. Now i use a 2x2 Midisport with two ins and two outs. i have seen it works perfectly if i plug it before i turn the computer on, but when i try to make it works in a turned on computer, it's very hard that this interface do its job as it should. there is cheap options, and i really understand you, but you could try to see something that works for you.
