| The problem I am having is one I never would have thought of. I am making a remix of a song I like. The wav I am sampling is a sort of country western song I suppose and its about 170 bpm. Something Ive noticed though is that ever so slightly it changes speed throughout the song, perhaps from 170 to 168 on some bars then back to 170 down to 167 etc. This is definately not done on purpose as it occurs randomly (not on chorus or verse starts etc). This makes it very difficult to record a drum beat for it or anything else for that matter as it always goes out of time. I recorded it onto another audio track and disabled stretch and then put the bpm upto 170 to see if this works but, after doing it I realised this wouldnt work and of course it didnt, the song was still faster and slower in different places. I dont want to use the whole song Im gonna chop it up a bit but I will be using a substantial part of it. Am I best to chop it up first and do something to the clips??? I have tried different methods in audacity, recycle and record but to be honest Ive no clue really and am just guessing and my guessing seems to be quite off point Has anyone else experienced something similar and what did you do to fix it.......? Cheers |

My personal touch on this would be making small sections of the song first. Chop it up into 16 beats (which eventually results into 4 bars in the reason sequencer). It may be some work to do this since you constantly need to keep track on the part you last have been cutting out. That's kind of the annoying part But when done, you are able to pinpoint the problem parts more easier. Since, if there is one 16 beat phrase going out of sync, you only need to focus on that part to fix it (using for instance recycle). I am not aware of how it would sound like in the final process since I have no clue which song it is. But technically, country is known for its strange tempo changes and weird signatures. So it is probably not going to be easy. Good luck! |

ah that is interesting. Since Im only going to be using certain parts of the song, do you recommend I chop these up first...? Ill be totally honesy Ive never done anything anywhere near this before so I really am stabbing in the dark. Just one quick thing when Ive found the problamatic parts, if you have the patience, what do you recommend I do with them, I really do have no idea....? Thanks mate :-) |

it kind of depends on the workflow you are used to. I mean, personally i would just throw it in recylce or edit it out with audicity back and forth. If the Beats per minute is the exact same you are using inside the song that you are trying to create, then Dr Rex will probably be your friend in this setup. Cut the parts that are troublesum and slice them independently. The trick in most some cases is that you are able to fake the tempo changes with using a bit of delay, reverbs and pitch modulation (which can also become a bit weird as an outcome, but its a bit trial on error). A sliced rex file can be loaded up inside the NN-XT and allows lot more control for pitch correction on that matter (using the Modulate Envelope of the remote programmer of the NN-XT). It is probably all a bit trial on error I guess since you also mentioned 'touching in the dark' with this. I can only guide you in the process on my own experience. |
