Default sampling with reason

After watching a friend walk me through using reason as a sequencer I'm very impressed but before I replace my hardware sequencer (mpc) I'd like to know about the it's sampling capability. Is it possible to add effects to samples, is there a vocoder?

Reason is perfect for samples, most of my stuff is over 50% samples. You'll need to get recycle first, you can chop up your sample any way you want and import it as a rex file. From there you can open it up as a Dr. Rex, NN-19 or an NN-XT all of those devices have tons of manipulation options as well as some automation you can use for real time tweaking. Youll be able to addmore effects than you would ever need to and there is a vocorder, it is just a little tricky to get working, find a tutorial.

I have recycle. I chopped up the sample using the pen tool to manually input slices. Export it as a rex file. Create an NN-XT. assign each slice via the rexfiel to a key. Press the key and it sounds like crap. Only way I could get it to work was to load the complete wav into nnxt. Copy it 16 times then use start / end to select each part.

When you press play on the Dr. REX? If that is it it's because you need to enter the correct BPM in recycle. Also consider the tempo you have your song in reason set to. I hardly ever use my samples as loops, so I usually just make sure the BPM in recycle is around what I like my songs at. But if you plan on playing it as a loop you need to get the bars and tempo right. Either speed up your tempo in reason or re-edit your time sig in recycle. The reason the WAV works is because you didn't chop it and give it a new BPM. You can also try moving the octave up on the Rex player
