Not too sure what you mean by "producing", but after i create my Reason tracks I import them into a free program called Audacity which is great for mastering, plus, it's free.

You can also try Cubase, or Adobe Audtion. Not free, but also pretty good.

Second a vote for Audacity.

I'm new at this, but have learned a LOT in a short time lately. What I did recently:

Before exporting from Reason, I sat for an hour or two on the song I was working on very carefully tweaking the mixer levels on everything (including individual EQ settings to get a good balance across the whole sound spectrum), listening to it over and over, on different headphones and speakers. I also opened the devices inside of the default mastering suite (combinator that sticks itself above the default mixer) and inside of that was a Maximiser. The Maximiser was useful for giving me an accurate VU meter to watch during playback and keep an eye out for red-lines. The knob furthest on the right was for "knee-ing" the audio, which is to say, prevent the output from ever redlining, no matter how loud something might be. This can be a bad thing and make things sound over-driven if you are trying to force the whole thing to be louder in a vain attempt to bring out quieter parts that you can't hear as much as you wish.

I would disable this temporarily, then play with the input and output gain knobs. If the song ever went into the red, then I had to decide if a particular instrument was too loud by itself, or if the whole song combined into something too loud, and the gain needed to be lowered slightly. So, all I would try to shoot for was 100% no-redline without the soft-knee being used, but then turn it back on once I was done for "good measure".

When exporting, I used the highest quality available: 96Khz at 24-bit. Audacity opens that right up. I'd then use Audacity to Normalize the audio streams up to 0dB and save it for future use. For sharing over the Internet, I would down-sample the track to 44khz in Audacity to be exported as MP3.
