Hi, I've imported a wav file using the expanded NN-XT and selected the solo sample button but for some reason I get (in adddition to the wav file) the note of whatever instrument is on the unexpanded NN-XT ie grand piano. I suspect this is really simple to remedy. Ideas?

I do get the idea , the NNXT loads up with a "standard" sound ...
To get a empty NNXT , goto the reason preferences , choose "General" from the pull down menu , and look on the bottom of the preferences-window

U see a tick-box with "Load Default sounds in new devices" .. untick this one , and you will have a empty NNXT next time you load one up ...
