When I used to use reason 3 on my friend's PC, I would bring Dr. rex loops to the track, and have no problem sketching additional bits in the sequencer. I didn't have to deal with "drawing clips." I was able to hear the new notes I'd sketched in along with the preexisting loop.

Now that I have reason 4 on my macbook, (and I doubt the computer really has anything to do with it) I am experiencing difficulties trying to sketch notes in edit mode. After reorienting myself and monkeying around, I kind of figured that I needed to draw a clip in order to sketch in some new notes.

In edit mode, the original notes of the loop are grayed out, and I can hear them when I play the song. However, when I drew a clip in a particular area in order to sketch in new notes, the original loop would stop in that area and I would only hear the notes I'd sketched in, when really I wanted to hear the whole thing together.

How do I draw notes into the sequencer in edit mode with a Dr. Rex loop? What's the deal with this "drawing clips" thing? I feel like it should be a lot simpler than this; besides, I was able to do it before with no difficulty...I just don't quite remember how. It's been a while.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

good reply, jmch! another option -- just so you know -- is to do the "to track" as described (and that you do!) -- then you can add another note lane in the same dr. rex -- this adds a whole new line for you -- and you can draw clips, add notes, etc. the advantage to doing this is that you can save time if you are going to be playing the regular loop along with looping something of your own creation based on the rex loop. otherwise, if you are only throwing a note here and there, double-clicking the loop and editing that way is your best bet!
