Default Looping MPC style?

Okay I use a Korg Kontrol49, have been for a while and I love it, I just don't know much about the 16 velocity sensitive pads. I can only get drums assigned to the pads, but I can't play more than like 1 or 2 bars and stay in perfect timing. Is there any way to just play 1-4 bars and then have it looped throughout a song? When I try to copy and paste groups in the sequencer, I can never line them up right, there has to be a easier way. I mean, I'd like to play piano or basslines for a song without having to literally play the whole song out. It's too hard to stay in perfect timing that long. Basically I just want to record a snippit and loop it MPC style. Can I assign any instrument to the pads....? Can I do it with the keys instead....? Hopefully this makes some sense to someone who can help... thanks a lot. C

P.S. I would just play notes through the Matrix, but the notes are so short through it. Can you increase how long the note plays? Thanks again.

As far as not having to hold the pad or note to play the whole sample, just turn the release all the way on the device you're using to play back your samples. As far as the looping, when you copy and paste it should loop perfectly AS LONG as you have the tempo right and you've chopped the sample right.

To be honest even though reason is pretty capable in sampling, it's far from the best at it. Partly because you cant really do any indepth audio editing, you can't timestretch it, and you can't record any audio. There's some other excellent programs that can handling sampling pretty easily, and can also rewire with reason so you can use them both at the same time, in sync.

And yes since your pads are sending the same midi notes as your actual keys, you should be able to play any instrument just fine (although I don't know why you would want to play a instrument using pads lol)

Thanks man, I'll work on chopping the sample up more.... but I'm finally getting the copy/paste looping thing down. I've been working on it since reading your advice. It's so simple, but it's really helping me out, so thanks a lot! C

Also, if you're having problems recording it in perfect timing, you have quantization enabled righyt? it automatically snaps your notes to the closest beat, I think it's preset to snap it to the closest 1/16th beat but you can change it by pressing... F8 I think. It's crucial for recording any notes.

Yeah I always quantanized after and it fucked the notes up, but I figured out you could change the grid (like you said), and adjust the strength percentage. But it's going better now... just gotta go tinker with some beats that had timing issues before I learned all of this! Thanks again. C
