Essential hardware with reason?

So far I have a sampler what else is good with reason? is a midi controller as good as a synthesiser with reason?

midi controllers just control knobs/faders, it's only really worthwhile if it comes with a keyboard or if you intend to be playing live a lot, bedroom musicians dont need these

you could use a midi controller just like you would a synth as long as it has keys.
