Default Mixer help

hey guys,

I am new to this forum! I have a very important question.

I am buying a Yamaha MW 12 mixer for $300. I wanted to know if i can use this mixer with reason, and assign nobs to my mixer on yamaha. Also If i can use the mixer's effects with reason. I don't want to waste 300 bucks. ANd if anyone can tell me, do I even need a mixer?

hmm. imo you only need a mixer if you're playing live, if you're a bedroom musician either don't bother, or get a much cheaper one. the only pieces of hardware i have are a keyboard (midistudio-2), a mixer(bcr2000) and a hercules mk2 (jogwheel scratching toy).

If the mixer sends midi data, then sure you should be able to assign controls to reason just fine. But as for the actual effects on your mixer, no your mixer's effects won't work. You're limited to the effect devices in reason (unless you rewire to a DAW).

Digital Audio Workstation, basically a program like Ableton Live, Acid, Sonar, Cubase, etc.
