Default Random Spam?

This has nothing to do with music, but what's with the explosion of spam bots in the forum? its getting really annoying, you have to yell to each other now over all the commotion about jewelry and soups.

Lol, I think it has to do with the way you register on these forums, it probably easy for bots to take advantage of so then we get all these spammers. If you're really annoyed you can block the account of the spammers. But yeah this definitely needs to be taken care of.

yeah i agree, it is easy for the bots to do this, then again dont we have image verification on these forums? also, the bots havent really done anything up until about a week ago, so I'm curious as to what started this bot growth

You have to enable the manual account activation. Then it's impossible to create hundreds of bot-accounts, because every regfistration has to be confirmed by the moderators/admins. I know some board, where this helped very well. After a while, you can open the board for automatic account activation again.

If you don't do anything, this board will die in a few month, because everybody is annoyed and loses the delight in reading threads here!

Thats actually kind of true; I remember I used to be a part of some forums that slowly had bots trickle in and everyone slowly left until the server became a bot wasteland... it was really sad...

Hmm. The spam-busting mod tools Moltar came back to install are either bugged, or flawed. It could be that the spammers are using more than one IP address so I have to delete it manually instead of all their posts at once, and sometimes I can't come to the forum for days, so the spam really builds up. but I'll start to come every day, and hopefully Moltar will come back so, I'll take out a couple of minutes every day to check on the forum and if there is any spam I'll delete it.
