This is, where automation comes in. You have to automate the "enabled" button of the effect. Or, if you use a send-effect, automate the send-amount of the channel. Automation is well explained in the manual.

yeah there are quite a few effects patches and combinators about - the thor can take audio in from another device like a subtractor so you can make effects using thor. also try splitting your sound with the strero imager - that will alow you to only effect the high or low parts of a sound - great for delays on basser sounds
