Default Latency :-(

Hi,

I have got some E-Drums. Usually i use an external Drumcomputer without any additional computer or software to play my drums. But now i need some new Samples, and this is why i have to use Reason instead of the external drumcomputer. In Principle it works. I can play my e-drums and reason plays the samples i want. In opposition to my external drumcomputer i have problems with the latency.
I use an external Soundcard (Audio 8 from Native Instruments / Traktor). In the preferences of reason i can setup output latency (buffer size). I cant reduce it lower then 34ms. When i try to use a lower latency, the sound is distorted. But a latency of 34ms is too much. I can hear the 34ms latency. My external dumcomputer has absolutly no latency.
I thought by using a modern external soundcard i shouldn't have any problems with latency. The settings of the external soudncard are ok. It has a latency of 4ms. But the settings in the reason software itself is the problem: 34ms.

I would be very happy if anyone can give me some hints.

Can i chance settings to reduce latency effectively... or do i have no chance to work without an acceptable latency because my hardware is to bad?

Thank you very much for help!!!

Choose asio in the audio setup. Now near the bottom of that window click on "Control panel." Click on "Enable ASIO......" And then, select 64 samples to start with. If you hear noise, then select 128.

You can also try downloading ASIO4ALL which is in version 2.5 beta now, just got it and it works great. It's basically ASIO (the best type of audio card drivers) except it takes care of all the behind the scenes stuff. I really reccomend using that instead of WDM or DX.

Yeah, ASIO works fine. No latency any more! Thank you very much!
