Well, the best way to do that would almost always be to record an actual drum kit using Soundforge or Ableton Live, and the import it into reason through the NNXT or Dr.Rex. Although not everyone has a drum kit, so when I need to do a drum roll for whatever reason I make an NNXT, load up my snare sample and assign it to two keys, then just record me hitting the notes so I get whatever roll effect I want, without doing all that tedious step sequencing, you might have to change your quantization settings though.

Not sure if you mean drum rolls or drum fills. A drum fill would be like one measure +/- of snare hits toms hits and so on. Are drum fills what you mean? If that's the case, you can paste and copy fills from the sequenced drums using a combinator. More on how to set this up if you want. But for quick fills, Titan is correct, just use the keyboard. Also you can slow it down if you can't fit it all in. Joe |

I don't know if you have the drum refill. If you do, you have more choices. But for now I will assume you don't. 1. Okay, let's begin with a mixer and a combinator. 2. Load a combinator drum patch. 3. Now, go to file>import midi file 4. From the pull down window, select sequenced material. 5. Then select midi files. 6. Choose a style 7. Load one of the selections 8. Now in the bottom left (red dot area) use the pull down and select combinator 1 for the midi files you just loaded. 9. You'll have to try a few until you find the right beat. Most of them (if not all) have drum fills. Just copy and paste. Try it and see. Let me know if you're having problems with my directions. Joe |

i find the trick for rolls is to use 3 or 4 slighty varing snare samples that seems to stop the 'machine gun' effect

use redrum. set it to 1/16 note. fill all the blocks. load a snare sample to channel 1 in redrum. use the start knob from 0 to about 90 to bring in the sound while tweaking the volume for that sample. |
