Default changing sample pitch: getting the tempo right

hello,

There's something I've been wondering about ever since I started messing around with Reason and Recycle.

Here's what I do when I want to use a sample in one of my productions, keeping in mind that my way might not be the best and there might be a better way, in which case could you please share your work method?

What I do when there's a sample I like is I usually erase the rest of the song as cleanly and precisely as possible (with Soundforge) and only keep the interesting part so that when I load it in Recycle, there's not much editing to do really.

The way I understand it, I pass my sample through Recycle so it sets the tempo of the sample...and that's the sole reason why I pass the sample through Recycle in the first place: just to get the precise tempo of my sample so I can then load it in Reason.

Now, the problem I encounter with this method (and this is what I'd like to understand) is that if I change the sample's pitch, the tempo given by Recycle will of course not match the sample's new pitch in Reason. So I have to try and adjust the tempo by ear which isn't as accurate.

Is there another way to change the sample's pitch first, and then load it in Recycle so it can give me the tempo of the sample?

If you're using Sounforge you have to slice your loops, that's how it can retain the loops tempo, not sure how to do it as i don't use soundforge but i'm sure other people can.

Sorry mate but I just don't get what you're suggesting.

The way I see it, if I slice the sample...there'll be blanks where there shouldn't.
I would just want to set the right pitch for a complete (unchopped) sample and play it at the right tempo in Reason.

I was thinking maybe a way around this problem would be to do your whole song with the original sample's pitch and when your track is complete and ready to roll, and only then, save the result as a single file and then reload it in Reason using NNXT and then switching to the desired pitch (?) Could work, couldn't it?
