| Of the 1/2 dozen tracks I've produced so far, I have found the trial-and-error approach to be most satisfying, sticking strictly to the Reason/Axiom platform for now (because Cubase is frustrating me to no end!), but I have now reached a blockage. So here comes the first newbie question, that which I cannot find a satisfactory answer for when searching this forum.... Regarding THOR, and specifically the 'sounds' within the 'Sequenced' folder..... for the life of me I cannot place a trigger point into the song sequencer so that it may play at designated spots within my creation. It seems that it's only triggered by me turning the "Run" button on & off (or assigning a key on the Axiom to do so). This is very frustrating and I think I've tried all the variables available to my mind, including an attempt to record it 'live' and capturing the on/off "Run". Perhaps I don't grasp the 'record' function too well yet, because that doesn't work either. So my question is, with all apologies if I am not using the correct terminology for the stuff, is HOW !?!?!? Surely there must be scope to use the sequenced THOR samples as a recorded song, and not just an on-stage trigger effect. Peace, Jase |

Do not use the Thor internal step sequencer to create your patterns! The internal step sequencer should be used for modulation purposes only and you cannot get the pattern into the sequencer track. Use a matrix pattern sequencer. Create your note sequences within the matrix (which should be connected to your Thor). When you're done, select the sequencer track of your Thor by simpley left clicking on it in the sequencer window. Then right click on the matrix and select "copy pattern to track". Now, you can turn off or delete the matrix. All notes should exist as clips in the sequencer track now and so you don't need the matrix any more. |

Cheers iGoA, for the quick response. Very, very, very cool to play around with the pre-defined Thor sequence in Matrix (thank you), but alas I am still having trouble in writing anything down over the song....... The issue I'm having now is the same as when it was purely Thor.......... hit "Run" (now being in Matrix) and it delivers the piece over my song, but I can't actually lay anything down in the song sequencer as somethig I can compose. |

After you have copied your pattern into the sequencer track, it appears as a clip there and you can move it, cut it, delete it, duplicate it and so on. (but don't forget, to disable or remove the matrix. otherwise, thor would reciever notes from both the matrix AND the sequencer track)

Thanks again, It sounds like you know your stuff. Still can't work it out, but I shall read deeper into your posts tomorrow. (for now, I took it in, tried it out and am still F^&%ked As an aside, do any of you fine people have a preferred FREE site where I may post some of my works in progress, to share with the amateur producer community ? Peace, Jase |

Jase - you've described my shattered dream. There was a time when I promised a site where you could excahnge rns files just like you said. Unfortunately it was cancelled because of high cost and not knowing enough about web hosting. Once you create a pattern with the Matrix, select "Copy Pattern To Track" like IGoA said. In the bottom of the Reason window you'll see a small section with tracks and editing tools. You can hit a button on the top-right hand corner of this display (called the sequencer) and it will open into a new window, here's where you arrange your song. Notes are put into groups, you can edit notes and control automation by going into EDIT mode(top-left side of the seq) or double-clicking on groups. You'll work it out

Your dream to host such a site may still one day come true, perhaps you should buy a lottery ticket I am quite familiar with the track sequencer, as I have put down quite a few 'unfinished symphonies' (lol) already in the month that I've been noodling with Reason...... so too with transposing what I create on any given device onto a track. But I'm still stumped as to how, even with the Matrix, I get a damned Thor Sequenced bit into the song. I'm starting to think that something might be buggy. With disregard for sounding stupid, here's the path that I'm taking.
I should mention that I have even selected the instrument in the sequencer window (tried both the THOR and the MATRIX) prior to "Copy Pattern To Track" but with no success. |

+1 to virb, sure there's not as many people as myspace but the player is ten million times better and I don't even know if there is a song limit...

I'll join that once I've actually made some fully proper tracks.
